About Exmoor Canoe Club

Exmoor Canoe Club is a friendly and relaxed canoe club. We meet regularly through the year depending on the season. Our summers we meet at the lake for Summer Evening Paddles and estuary, sea and surf sessions,  winters we have a regular indoor pool session and regular river trips on the stunning rivers of the south west and beyond.

Our aim is to get you paddling with like-minded people. We run regular junior and adult sessions for beginners or more skilled paddlers.

The club has several coaches who can help you improve your skills and also get you qualified through the BCU star awards or safety courses.

History of Exmoor Canoe Club

Exmoor Canoe Club was formed in November 2004 and started off primarily as an informal meet & greet service for paddlers in the Exmoor area. Using the ECC message board, local trips down the Upper and Lower Barle were organised and so the club was born. Trips went from five or six people just meeting up at the car park to over thirty paddlers from Exmoor taking on Exmoor rivers.

The club now has a much wider appeal and attracts members looking for a friendly and relaxed approach to paddling. We now get members from all over the south west who are drawn by our stunning location, rivers on the door step, incredible lake setting and access to some of the best sea and surf in the country… we have it all.

The club now runs a full and inclusive calendar of events throughout the year, including river trips on Exmoor, Dartmoor and sometimes further afield, sea kayaking on estuaries and in bays on the south and north coast of Devon and surfing trips to some sweet spots in Somerset and Devon. Keep an eye on the website calendar or sign up to the Facebook page for information on trips or events.

The club also runs training courses and skills sessions on Wimbleball Lake and the Rivers Barle, Exe and Dart. These are aimed at both beginners wanting to learn the skills necessary to progress from flat to moving water and intermediate/advanced paddlers wanting to hone their existing skills and to assist with gaining coaching qualifications.
